This compact 3.2" x 2.00" board contains all the circuitry necessary to provide students with a strong foundational knowledge in both NTC thermistor and solid state temperature sensor theory and operation. The board also contains two dual op amp ICs that allow students to gain valuable experience in sensor signal conditioning. There is a MOSFET driver circuit that allows students to control a 12VDC fan directly from the board. The fan driver circuitry is controlled by an adjustable op amp Schmitt trigger that allows the students to experiment with a basic deadband controller, using either the NTC thermistor or the solid state temperature sensor as the input transducer. The board is designed specifically for student experimentation, with easily accessible test points and jumper locations.

This compact 1.6" by 1.2" board features the TCRT5000 Reflective Optical Sensor, manufactured by Vishay Semiconductors. While the board has very practical industrial applications as a non-contacting limit switch or proximity sensor, it is designed primarily for student experimentaion. The board contains the familiar LM311P high-speed voltage comparator and a potentiometer which allows for sensitivity adjustment during experimentation. The board provides a discrete (digital) output signal that pulses to a logic high when a reflective object approaches the sensor. A small (3mm) LED indicator illuminates with this condition, serving as a visual aid in sensitivity adjustment. The board also contains easily accessible test points, allowing the student to directly monitor and compare the outputs of the TCRT5000 sensor and the sensitivity adjustment potentiometer. The board has mounting holes for direct connection to machinery, but also contains a right-angle pin header for easy attachment to a prototyping board.
